ENGINEERING BRANCH CADETS







According to the Engineer Cadets’ Training Programme the Marine Engineering Course has been split up into three terms each of one year duration. On completion of each term the cadets appear at the year final examination and after three terms the average results are compiled by National University for graduation degree. During the tenure of the course in the academy, a cadet has to undergo practical training at workshop of the Academy and also onboard Fishing vessels. After successful completion of training, once the cadets are passed out from the Academy they are likely to be found working in diverse positions as engineer officers on board the fishing and merchant vessels of both Government and Private sectors both in home and abroad. They get the salaries and allowances plus free messing and lodging as admissible under the rules. After acquiring about 12 months watch keeping service at sea, they become eligible to appear Fishing vessel Class-2 marine Engineers Examination for the Certificate of Competency as 2nd Engineer. Then after acquiring 18 months further watch-keeping service as a Certified Engineer, one becomes eligible to appear for the Cass-1 Marine Engineers Examination Certificate of Competency as Chief Engineer and becomes eligible to be a Chief Engineer of the vessel. Marine engineers are also able to find positions on shore in the shipping industries or can expect to find employment at factories, with port authority, as builders at repair yards and as Instructor in institutions of maritime education.
